Adult Autism & Neurodivergence Clarity Visit

Understanding How You Are Wired

Many adults spend years feeling “different” without knowing why. They may be bright, capable, sensitive, creative, loyal, or highly analytical — yet still struggle with overwhelm, burnout, social exhaustion, sensory sensitivity, emotional intensity, rigid routines, shutdowns, or the feeling that ordinary life takes more effort than it seems to take for others.

A Compassionate Starting Point

For some patients, this leads to the question: Could I be autistic, neurodivergent, or simply wired differently than I was taught to believe?

Our Adult Autism & Neurodivergence Clarity Visit is designed as a compassionate starting point for adults who are wondering whether autism or neurodivergence may help explain their life experience.

This visit is not about forcing a label onto you. It is about helping you understand your nervous system, your patterns, your strengths, your struggles, and your next right step.

Who This Visit Is For

This visit may be a good fit if you are an adult who:

  • Has wondered whether you may be autistic or neurodivergent
  • Has a history of feeling socially different, misunderstood, or “out of sync”
  • Feels exhausted from masking, performing, or trying to appear normal
  • Struggles with sensory overload, emotional overwhelm, shutdowns, or burnout
  • Has strong abilities in some areas but significant difficulty in others
  • Has been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, trauma, or mood symptoms, but feels there may be something deeper underneath
  • Wants help understanding what autism or neurodivergence would actually mean for your life

What We Do During the Visit

As part of the visit, we may use the RAADS-R screening tool to explore autistic traits in adulthood. The RAADS-R is not a stand-alone diagnosis, but it can be a helpful starting point for identifying patterns that may deserve further evaluation.

Together, we review your results in context. We look beyond the score and discuss what the patterns may mean in real life, including:

  • Masking and social exhaustion
  • Sensory sensitivity and overstimulation
  • Communication style
  • Emotional regulation and shutdowns
  • Cognitive strengths and differences
  • Routines, transitions, and predictability needs
  • Relationship patterns
  • Work, school, and daily life impact
  • Whether formal autism evaluation may be appropriate

What You Can Expect to Leave With

The goal of this visit is clarity. You should leave with better language for your experience, a better understanding of your nervous system, and a practical sense of what to do next.

For some patients, the next step may be formal diagnostic evaluation. For others, it may be education, accommodations, therapy, coaching, workplace adjustments, or simply learning how to stop fighting their own wiring.

Autism and neurodivergence are not failures of character. They are differences in how the brain and nervous system process the world. When those differences are misunderstood, people often blame themselves. When those differences are understood, patients can begin building a life that fits them more honestly.

Our Approach

At Hill Family Medicine, we approach adult autism and neurodivergence with respect, curiosity, and compassion. We do not view this work as a search for what is “wrong” with you. We view it as a search for what is true about you.

Understanding your wiring can help you make better decisions about your relationships, work, health, energy, boundaries, and emotional life. It can also help you release shame from patterns that may have never been moral failures — only misunderstood needs.

This visit is a starting place for adults who are ready to understand themselves more clearly and move forward with more confidence, self-respect, and support.

Why Choose Hill Family Medicine?

  • Respect, Curiosity, Compassion: Not a search for what is wrong with you, but for what is true about you.
  • Beyond the Score: We review screening results in the context of your real life, not as a number.
  • A Practical Next Step: You leave with better language for your experience and a clear sense of what to do next.

FAQs About the Adult Autism & Neurodivergence Clarity Visit

Is the RAADS-R a Diagnosis?

No. The RAADS-R is a screening tool used to explore autistic traits in adulthood. It is not a stand-alone diagnosis, but it can be a helpful starting point for identifying patterns that may deserve further evaluation.

Many adults who come to this visit have already been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, trauma, or mood symptoms, but feel there may be something deeper underneath. We look at the whole pattern rather than the existing label alone.

For some patients, the next step is formal diagnostic evaluation. For others it may be education, accommodations, therapy, coaching, workplace adjustments, or simply learning how to stop fighting their own wiring.
