Discover the Art of Aesthetic Care

Feeling confident in how you look is part of feeling well. At Hill Family Medicine, Botox treatments are provided by Stephanie Boothe, APRN, FNP-C, with a focus on natural-looking results that still look like you.

What is Botox?

Botox Cosmetic is a purified protein that temporarily relaxes the muscles that cause expression lines, the creases that form when you frown, squint or raise your eyebrows. It is FDA-approved for frown lines between the brows, crow’s feet, forehead lines and vertical neck bands.

Benefits of Botox

  • Softens Expression Lines: Frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines.
  • Non-Surgical: A few small injections, with little or no downtime for most people.
  • Quick: Treatment usually takes 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Results That Last: Typically 3 to 4 months.
  • Natural Look: We aim for a refreshed look, not a frozen one.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox temporarily blocks the nerve signals that tell treated muscles to contract. As those muscles relax, the lines above them soften. Regular treatments can help keep expression lines from deepening. Most people return to their normal day right away.

Who Can Benefit from Botox?

Botox may be a good fit for adults who want to:

  • Soften frown lines, crow’s feet or forehead lines
  • Keep expression lines from deepening
  • Look more rested and refreshed

What to Expect During Your Appointment

  1. Consultation: Stephanie reviews your goals, medical history and medications, and whether Botox is right for you.
  2. Treatment: A few small injections in the planned areas. Most people describe a quick pinch.
  3. Aftercare: You get simple written instructions, such as staying upright for a few hours and not rubbing the treated areas.

Preparing for Your Botox Appointment

To achieve the best possible outcomes, we recommend the following pre-treatment guidelines:

  • Blood Thinners: If you take a prescribed blood thinner, keep taking it and tell us at your consultation. If you take aspirin, ibuprofen or fish oil on your own, ask us whether to pause them before treatment to lower the chance of bruising.
  • Alcohol: Skip alcohol for 24 hours beforehand to reduce bruising.
  • Medications and Supplements: Bring a list to your consultation.
  • Big Events: Plan treatment about 2 weeks ahead so results are fully in place.

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox

Is Botox safe?

Botox Cosmetic is FDA-approved and has been used for more than 20 years. Like any medicine, it has risks, which we review with you before treatment.

Most people feel a brief pinch. The needle is very small.

Usually within 3 to 5 days, with the full effect at about 2 weeks.

Typically 3 to 4 months.

Common ones are mild and short-lived: redness, swelling or bruising where the needle went in, or a headache. Less often, an eyelid or eyebrow can droop for a few weeks. Rarely, the effect can spread beyond the treated area; call us or seek care right away if you have trouble swallowing, speaking or breathing, or new muscle weakness.

People who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an infection where they would be treated, have certain nerve or muscle conditions such as myasthenia gravis, or have had a reaction to a botulinum toxin product.
